First Snow /Blogmas ’21

Of distant dreams, whimsical winters,
And a bottomless longing for the first snow of the season.
I’d feel it brewing in the chilly breeze,
Ears perked up due to the soft rustling of leaves that whisper among themselves.
And eavesdropping wouldn’t seem half bad in that fuzzy state of want.
Maybe I’d look up at the silent sky more than usual-
Squinted brown eyes demanding an answer from the vast canvas, painted in a brilliant hue of blue.

In the middle of pulling a cozy knitted sweater over my head,
My gaze would drift to the window, wordlessly welcoming the glassy snowflakes in awe.
Dashing out the door as if on instinct,
I’d open my arms in an amateur attempt to embrace the beloved guest,
And ruffle my hair to set the captive bits free.

It appears almost tangible, almost like I can feel it rippling underneath my fingertips or perhaps it’s just the swift glide of a loyal pen.
But can I be blamed for leaning into the comforting cold emanating from the blanket of snow spread out on the grass?
Or for impressing snow angels onto the ground even after knowing full well that it will wane with time?

Completely immersed in a fantasy,
Suffering from a shallow water blackout,
I’d desperately hunt for a winter wonderland in the marshmallows sitting atop my hot chocolate, but, in vain.
Ah! To breathe and walk an epistle to something your skin will never touch.
To sit back with a cheek pressed to the window pane, sighs of yearning condensing to dew.
To await a first snow…

Here’s wishing all of you lovely people a comforting, rewarding, high- spirited and joyous December!

Does it snow where y’all live? It doesn’t here.🥺 If not, how’s the weather over there? Let me know your first snow experiences in the comments!🤔

Yours truly,

The Ink Warrior.
