Bloom /Blogmas ’21

A rivulet of sweat rolls down your forehead, threatening to invade the right eye.
You huff and shut your eyelids tight, wiping it off with the back of your left hand and resume work.
Oh, these tiresome days!
Unending hours of sweltering in the enraged sunlight, bruised red and burnt brown from its fire piercing your skin.
You feel like you’d melt under the heat of the predicament, or perhaps, vapourise into thin air.
But, even with the looming possibility of a blackout, ragged breathing and shaking limbs, you stand there persistently.

Fingernails turning purple due to the abrupt drop in temperature,
Skin almost morphed into scales from being exposed to moisture for too long,
The only audible sound from a human source is the distinct clatter of teeth.

Being stuck outdoors during a storm is never a good idea to begin with,
let alone have the ridiculously powerful torrents of rainfall drench you whole,
Substituting the sensation of having a bucket of ice dumped on you.
But you bring your scarily blue, trembling, numb hands to your mouth and let out puffs of air in an attempt to warm them and chase away the cold.

Enamored by a fresh, citrus scent, you look forward with excitement,
Delighting in the dazzling display of expensive decor.
Happily approaching the Sweet’s counter to grab a lemon meringue pie,
Your eyes lock on a lone beam of sunlight crossing the windsill and splitting into it’s iridescent spectrum on a polished tray.
Someone who entered the room left the door open long enough for a chilly breeze to come along and whisper to you,

And a tear drop stains your cheek, because in that moment, you realize that you were blooming all along.

Even if you feel that your life right now is a downward spiral, let me assure you it’s not. The dark clouds are bound to subside and make way for better days sooner or later. Just hold tight, overthink a little less and grow as we go. This is a sign for you to look back and give yourself credit for how far you’ve come as a human. CHEERS!🐨💚

Yours truly,

The Ink Warrior.
